Session Title: Librarians in the 21st Century: Designing a Career Strategy for Evolving Roles and Opportunities

Target Audience(s): Library school students, new librarians, mid-career librarians

Session Description: Speakers will share results of a survey completed by librarians around the world and discuss the evolving roles, opportunities and career requirements of information professionals today. As the information world transitions into the 21st century, so too must information professionals. For anyone making a transition, whether you are a recent library school graduate, job hunting, changing jobs or advancing your career, this session will cover the current lay of libraryland, the evolution of the profession, and what this means for librarians.

Objectives:

1. Participants will conduct an individualized career analysis.
2. Participants will receive an overview of new and evolving roles of librarians.
3. Participants will be equipped with practical career strategies for keeping their skills current with the shifting profession.
